North Carolina Wildlife Corridor announces its traveling exhibit!

This month, we launched our traveling wildlife crossing exhibit at the Kids in Nature Day event in our Piedmont region! We took a science fair themed approach as we built a model of a habitat fragmented by roadways and offered the solution with our second model of a wildlife crossing underpass! This underpass model resembles a prototype version of what will be built for critically endangered Red Wolves and other wildlife species in Eastern NC in the future!

We used storytelling cards and compelling visuals to spark the conversation between children and their families on what habitat fragmentation is, how wildlife crossings help to protect humans and wildlife, facts on many different species in NC, facts surrounding why species around North Carolina rely on traveling and the positive effects that happen when they travel successfully. We offered our free wildlife crossing curriculum at the end of the exhibit tour! What were the results?

  1. Over 300 conversations were had with children and their families!

  2. Over 50 wildlife crossing curriculum downloads took place!

  3. New collaborative connections were established!

  4. New exhibit partnerships were formed for new events in the future!

Thank you to the North Carolina Wildlife Federation’s South Wake Conservationists for inviting us to this event, to everyone who stopped by our exhibit, and to our amazing volunteers who helped make this launch a success! We are excited for the next event!
